Campeón, Exotic
Species Control Specialist
A Dominican native of
an indeterminable pedigree, the orphaned Campeón grew up
on the unforgiving streets of Sabana de la Mar in the mid-90s.
By all accounts his youth was carefree with few responsibilities,
but not without difficulties as he learned to fend for himself
and scavenge for food at a young age.
In 1998, young Campeón
had the good fortune to meet up with Peace Corps Volunteer
Julie Morris, with whom he formed an unusually strong bond.
After several visits with Julie to her home state of Florida,
Campeon finally decided to make the move permanent in 2000.
He and Julie have enjoyed many adventures together, traveling
from Florida to Montana, and back again, enjoying the sites
and adventures along the way.
Those who know Campeón
describe the gleam in his eye, and his escape-artist tendencies.
Many a time he has lured a fellow-walker into thinking they
were out for a leisurely stroll, when for no know reason
his tail will suddenly lift and his lazy gait turns into
a joyful trot as he goes off on his own to discover just
a little more of the wonders Florida has to offer.
Campeón is currently enjoying the quiet coastal life of
Venice, and can often be found sunning in the front room
of Wildlands Conservation’s Venice office. If you’re
lucky he may allow you to give him a good scratch and walk
before returning to his work of preserving Florida’s
natural wildlands.
