Wildlands Conservation is a core group of ecologists, acquisition specialists, land managers, and conservation planners with a common goal to conserve our wildlands.  We believe that our organization and it’s expertise are a critical component in the challenge to save our remaining wild places.

Wildlands Board of Directors

Dr. Henry Mushinsky, Member
Henry R. Mushinsky received the Ph.D in Zoology from Clemson University in 1973.  He joined the faculty at the University of South Florida in 1979, where he has served as Professor and Graduate Director since 1995.  His research focuses on rare and listed vertebrate species.  Mushinsky has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles.  He and colleague Earl McCoy have mentored 39 graduate students. Mushinsky will be President of the American Society of Ichthyology and Herpetology in 2008, has served as an elected member of the IUCN (world conservation union) as a tortoise and freshwater turtle expert, and is a member of the executive board of the World Congress of Herpetology.

Shannon Gonzalez, Member
Shannon Gonzalez has a diverse educational and professional background with interests in large-scale landscape issues, wildlife ecology and wetland function.  He received his B.S. in biology from the University of South Florida (USF) in 1997 and his M.S. in Zoology from the USF in 2004.  He is currently a Senior Project Scientist for Biological Research Associates in Tampa, Florida where he has been employed since 1997 and, he also serves as President of Florida's Nature Coast Publishing, Inc.  As an Ecologist, his experience includes wildlife habitat assessment, wetland evaluation, and extensive preparation of oral and written documentation of his collaborations and findings.  In business, he has focused on operations management, including real estate negotiations, financial oversight and human resources.  He has also built an excellent working relationship with many biologists, regulators, academicians and businesses that increase the potential for collaboration on many different levels.

P. Daniel Alberdi, Jr., Member
Danny received his B.S. in Biology from Florida State University in 1981, a M.S. in Biological Oceanography from the University of South Florida’s School of Marine Science in 1990, and his J.D. from the Stetson University College of Law in 2001. Danny’s professional career included two stints at the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County (EPC) where he originally worked as an environmental scientist in the Wetlands Management Division handling wetlands and sovereign submerged lands related reviews, as well as development plan reviews. During this initial tenure, Danny served on various advisory committees, including the Tampa Port Authority’s (TPA) Submerged Lands Management Committee, the TPA’s Dredge Review Committee, the Army Corps of Engineers Migratory Bird Committee, the Cockroach Bay Restoration Alliance, and the Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve Management Advisory Team. During his most recent tenure at the EPC, Danny served as the Assistant Director of the Wetlands Management Division, where he was charged with oversight of wetlands related permitting for HillsboroughCounty. He also helped draft and implement one of the State’s most comprehensive mangrove protection rules during this period. He worked at the Tampa law firm ofMacfarlane Ferguson and McMullen from 2001 through 2004 specializing in the practice of environmental and land use law, and served on the Citizens Environmental Advisory Committee in 2002. His interests include environmental planning and policy.

Heidi Bogardus McCree, Member
Heidi Bogardus McCree of Tampa is an attorney and former executive director of the Hillsborough River Greenways Task Force. She was appointed to the Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board from September 2000 - April 2008. In 2005, she was elected as the District's first female Chairperson. She also served as founder and Chair of the District's Basin Board Land Resources Committee and served as the District's liaison to the Florida Greenways and Trails Council and TampaBay Estuary Program. Additionally, McCree was a member of the Southwest Florida Water Management District's Governing Board Planning Committee, and chair of the Resource Management and Development Committee. She was the chair ex officio of the Hillsborough River Basin Board. She is a founding Board member and current President of the Tampa Bay Conservancy. She also serves as President of the effort to reauthorize Hillsborough County's Environmental Land acquisition program (ELAPP). She is anactive member of the Florida Alliance of Land Trusts. McCree received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Vanderbilt University in 1986 and a juris doctor from George Mason University School of Law in 1992. She received professional certification from the Florida Conflict Resolution Consortium in 1996 for negotiating and resolving public disputes. McCree served for four years as the executive director of the Hillsborough River Greenways Task Force. Previously, she worked for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and for two governors of Maryland in their Chesapeake Bayand Save Our Streams programs. She is a member of Leadership Florida Class XXV. She was a member of the Tampa Bay Partnership Vision 21 and One Bay efforts as well as the Hillsborough County Bar Association, Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers, Hillsborough County League of Women Voters and the Water Issues Coalition. She is a Junior League sustaining member and is involved in her children's school and church activities.
